  • Product Description

Celebrate the first two nights of Passover with this modern plate designed especially for the six ceremonial foods of seder: the egg, the charoset, the horseradish, the bone, the parsley, and the greens. The first letters of the foods' Hebrew names are raised in sloping delicacy on the plate, creating elegant shallow grooves.

Elegant and contemporary, Nambé's Judaica line designed by Marilyn Davidson includes such ceremonial items as a menorah, mezuzah, Kiddush cup, bread knife, and this Seder plate, all made of brightly polished metal. The Seder plate, measuring 14 inches square with rounded corners and a slight rim, features six raised Hebrew letters, representing the names of each symbolic food for the Passover Seder. A slight well formed by each letter holds a small mound of the food in place for the ceremonial dinner. Washing the plate by hand rather than in a dishwasher preserves the beautiful shine of the metal, which will not tarnish, crack, or chip and is safe for freezer- and oven-use (but not microwave). The Seder plate comes gift-boxed and makes a handsome present for a new household.

Nambé was founded in 1951 in a village of the same name in scenic northern New Mexico. From the beginning, the company focused on hand-producing high-quality, functional metal items such as bowls and trays with great attention to timeless, modern design. Still made in the USA, Nambé's signature metal alloy is liquefied, poured into a hand-made sand cast, and the resulting piece repeatedly polished and smoothed by hand. Exceptional gifts for the most special of occasions, Nambé metal bowls and accessories are now joined by porcelain and crystal pieces, each flawlessly crafted. Nambé ware has won numerous design awards, has been shown in or recognized by nearly two dozen museums worldwide, and is part of the permanent collections of many, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. --Ann Bieri
